The Merchandise Planner is responsible for an integral part of the planning process and is responsible for analyzing business performance and recommending financial strategy to ensure merchandise category financial parameters are achieved through forecast execution. This includes both initial plan construction and in:season adjustments, utilizing the Arthur Planning System. Reports to Senior Director, Merchandise Planning or Manager, Merchandise Planning. No direct reports. Must possess the ability to:
* Analyze business performance and recommend financial strategy to support specific merchandise category. This includes hindsighting, initial plan development: sales, inventory, margin as well as monthly re:forecasting thru the Merchandise Plan Review, MD management, and supporting buying group in assortment line review process.
* Develop weekly sales, markdown and receipt plans at the class and sub class level based on partnership with the Buying Organization regarding trend and assortment coupled with historical performance.
* Develop and manage adhoc reporting to support recommendations in sub:class plans. This may include reporting/managing below subclass as necessary to support business strategy.
* Provide leadership, insight and results for any meeting presenting or discussing the financial strategy, pre:season plan or forecast as indicated by the business calendar: ie:
* Pre:Season Planning Review
* Pre Merchandise Plan Review
* Merchandise Plan Review (by category)
* Participate in the business meetings to ensure that the financial plan aligns with the merchandising strategy: ie.:
* Quarterly Hindsight
* Weekly department meetings
* Style / Line review meetings
* Company strategy meeting
* Support cross:functional partners through articulate communication and coordination of sub:class plan strategies.
* CFO partner for buying group to ensure delivery of team financial goals including development/reforecasting sub:class plans, assortment planning, vendor planning, key item planning, MD management, and ad:hoc analysis focused on maximizing opportunities, and risk management.
* Presentation of audience appropriate materials that drive action:oriented results. i.e. risk assessments; MPR discussions.
Qualifications:
* Minimum of 5+ year's experience in merchandise planning, allocation, financial analysis, buying
* Strong statistical/analytical skills including data retrieval, organization, presentation and summary skills
* Excellent communication skills including written and verbal with emphasis on delivery of financial concepts
* Proficient in Excel, Data Warehouse/Business Objects and Arthur Planning
* B.S. degree in Business or Marketing, preferred
