Shift: Wednesday 2pm:8pm, Thursday:Saturday 7:30am:7:30pm
Responsibilities include:
:Monitor and support distributed and mainframe platforms through the use of various monitoring tools and applications
:Operate distributed/mainframe systems and associated peripherals
:Identify, resolve, or escalate system alerts that impact system availability
:Perform moderate problem analysis via the operating system console and other mainframe utilities and take corrective action where called for or seek assistance where cause of problem is not apparent
:Respond to system hardware failure and work with support teams or vendor to minimize impact to the business
:Adjust workloads of operating environment to provide optimum service to on:line applications, production jobs and testing
:Provide moderate hardware break/fix and/or associated hands on support for vendor escort
:Perform/oversee media rotations (tape or other) as necessary
:Perform all functions associated with system shutdown/startup of distributed and mainframe systems including Initial Program Load (IPL)
:Opens service tickets and initiates escalation procedures
:Works with IT Infrastructure, operations, and service vendors to plan and execute outage windows for hardware upgrades or emergency maintenance
:Participate in the training of Computer Operators and provides guidance and consultation as required
:Documents and maintains console operations procedures and standards
:Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements strongly preferred:
:Strong knowledge of distributed and mainframe operating system and sub:systems
:Strong knowledge of distributed and mainframe utility programs
:Familiarity with Customer Information Control System (CICS), Database 2 (DB2), and Information Management System (IMS) startup and shutdown
:Strong knowledge of IBM operating system and job management commands and console operations
:Strong interpersonal skills
:Strong written and oral communication skills
:Must possess strong time and priority management skills
:Must be able to take direction from senior staff members
:Must be able to work independently in a fast paced environment
:Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
:Ability to work non:standard shifts
:Strong knowledge of monitoring tools: Computer Associates (CA) Spectrum and BMC Mainview monitoring
:Moderate knowledge of operating system and sub:systems: IBMz/Operating System (z/OS mainframe operating system; IBM Job entry System 2 (JES2) job management sub:system; IBM Time Sharing Option (TSO) single
